Advantages: (Dumbbells and Barbells)
  • The ability to have a wide variety of exercises to workout all muscle groups.
  • The machine confines movement and weight, and free weight does not.
  • Helps in the development of building coordination and control because it takes skill to control and balance the weights.
  • During any exercises, you may be working out other muscle groups as well. You will not only be working out your primary muscle, but your secondary, or maybe a third muscle may be getting a workout.

  • There is a possibility of a chance of a serious injury or even death from dropping weights on yourself.
  • It gets to be expensive buying dumbbells especially if your strong and require more weights.
  • If your a beginner, free weights does require skills and knowledge.

Advantages: (Machines)
  • It's very simple and easy to use.
  • Great to use for beginner's.
  • Does not require much skill or coordination to use any machine weights.


Disadvantages: (Machines)
  • It can be very costly and expensive to own machine equipments.
  • You require a lot of space. Machine equipments does take up a lot of space.
  • Using machines to do resistance exercise only workouts one muscle group at a time.
  • Injury can also be a possibility during use.





Resistance Exercise Tips


Resistance workouts helps improve your muscle tone and appearance, increases your energy levels, and maintains a healthy body weight.

Here are some tips to help guide you to a better lifestyle:

  1. Allow about 30-90 minutes per training session and about 10-15 of warming up.
  2. Perform strength training exercises a couple of times a week.
  3. Use enough weights to perform 2-4 sets of 8-12 reps when doing any type of resistance exercises.
  4. Between each sets rest for about 30-90 seconds at a time.
  5. Be sure to workout every muscle group when exercising.
  6. Workout the larger muscles first then the smaller muscles.
  7. Change exercises and your intensity level over time.
  8. Also try exercises with bands/tubes, calisthenics, and floor exercises using higher repetitions.
