Finding a personal trainer
that's right for you is not an easy task. As a matter of fact, it's
much more difficult than you think it is. You have to "research"
"research", ask plenty of questions, and know your goals and what you
would like to achieve.
I will be going through a step by step guideline of what you need to be
looking for when choosing a good personal trainer can make you succeed
and not cause you to fail.
Look
For an NCCA-Accredited Certification First
Any personal trainer should have a current up to date NCCA-accredited
certification. This will let you know that you are working with a
professional and not a fraud.
NCCA stands for "The National Commision for Certifying Agencies" and it
is a 26 year experienced accredited health professions such registered
as athletic trainers, nurses, and occupational therapist.
Do not ever be afraid to ask for a copy of the personal trainer's
certification to be sure that everything is current.
.......However,
after checking their credentials, there are still several criteria's
that you should consider.
Work
Experience & Area of Specilization
After looking his or hers NCAA Certification, ask for how many years
experience the personal trainer has working with clients, most
importantly, those who have needs and limitation.
Also, ask about what level of specilization does he/she have in fitness
such as weight loss, body building, NFL training, NBA training, and so
forth. Whatever your goal is and that is the personal trainers level of
expertise is, then that can benefit you by far.
Personal
Trainer's Education
Even though having a NCCA Ceritfication to show professionalism is
excellent, however, having a college degree in exercise science or
anything related is even better.
This will definetly let you know that the personal trainer has a solid
background in personal training people.
Ask
for Reference
When finding a personal
trainer, be sure to ask the trainer
for any names, numbers, and testimonials of other clients.
However, if you can, cll previous clients and ask her questions about
the personal trainer that you may be using. That will help you decide
if the personal trainer is right for you.
Have
A Personal Relation With The Trainer
Develop a professional, yet,
personal relationship with your personal trainer. Trust your gut
instincts. Ask yourself if you can get a long with the personal trainer
and if your personal trainer is willing and interested to help you.
Rates
& Costs
A personal trainers fee's
and rates are based on experience, reputation, facility prices, and
area of living. The better the personal trainer is, the more expensive
the trainer will be. The more experience and the better reputation can
be worth the price only if you are willing to pay.
However, even thought if he/she has good credentials, start from the
beginning to make sure the personal trainer is worth the money.
Liability
Insurance and Business Policies
When finding a personal
trainer, there are many personal
trainers that operate as independent contracrors and he/she are not
employees of any facilities or gyms.
Make
sure that the personal trainer you would like has the following:
- Carries Liability Insurance
- Has Cancellation Policy
- Has Billing Procedures
Be sure to have all these policies in writing to avoid any confusion
and to protect your rights.
Decide
If You Can Work With The Trainer
Find out if the personal
trainer of your choice can accomadate your schedule whether you workout
in the morning, afternoon, or evening. There are people who can workout
a lot better with a personal trainer of the same sex then a personal
trainer of the opposite sex.
